Join LSPk8 as we March to Raise Awareness for MMIWP

The Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and People (MMIWP) movement raises awareness about the disproportionate rates of violence and disappearance experienced by Indigenous women, girls, Two-Spirit people, and boys. This event gives students and parents the opportunity to participate in building community and raising awareness of the movement.

Learn the Women’s Warrior Song

May 20 – Guest, Kayla, will be teaching the Woman’s Warrior Song. (parents are invited to stop by and learn the song too)

  • 11:45-12:20- K/1
  • 12:25-1:10- 2/3 (hopefully also 4/5)
  • 1:30-2- All middle school

Join the LSPK8 Racial Equity Team and  PTO to prepare materials for the march!

May 20 – 5:00-7:00pm (volunteer paperwork not required – evening PTO Event)
We’re prepping signs and materials for students to make for the schoolwide Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and People (MMIWP) march on May 31. Parents will have the opportunity to learn the Women’s Warrior Song. Come and get crafty with us!

Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and People March

When: May 31 – 11:30am – 2:00pm

Where: from Licton Springs to the Ballard Commons Park. (Shortened route for younger students).

Parents and families invited and encouraged to attend! Volunteer paperwork required

Throughout May, students will learn the Women’s Warrior Song, make signage, and learn chants and drum rhythms from community members. We will put all this learning into effect on May 31st, when we show our support for our Indigenous community members by marching in their honor.
