Nurse Smiley reminds us that staying home when sick helps keep our community healthy.

When to Keep your child home from school:

    • APPEARANCE, BEHAVIOR - unusually tired, pale, lack of appetite, difficult to wake, confused or irritable. This is sufficient reason to exclude a child from school.
    • EYES - thick mucus or pus draining from the eye or pink eye (conjunctivitis).
    • FEVER - temperature of 100 degrees Fahrenheit or higher.
    • BAD COLD AND/OR COUGH – Students need to be able to cover their cough to be at school. If a cough or cold persists for more than 2 weeks, the student may need to be seen by a health care provider
    • SORE THROAT - especially with fever or swollen glands in the neck.
    • DIARRHEA - 2 or more watery stools in a 24 hour period especially if the child acts or looks ill.
    • VOMITING - vomiting 2 or more times within the past 24 hours. Student should stay home for 24 hours after the last time they vomited.
    • RASH - Bothersome body rash, especially with fever or itching. Some rashes may spread to others and should be checked by a health care provider.
    • INJURY/SURGERY – if students are unable to concentrate due to pain or pain medication, they should stay home. Please have your health care provider contact the school nurse to help your child safely return to school. Letting the school nurse know in advance of any planned surgery will be helpful.
    • EAR INFECTIONS WITHOUT FEVER - do not need to be excluded, but the child needs to get medical treatment and follow-up. Untreated ear infections can cause permanent hearing loss.
    • SCABIES - children may not return to school until they have been properly treated.

IF YOUR CHILD SHOWS ANY OF THE ABOVE SYMPTOMS AT SCHOOL, IT WILL BE NECESSARY TO PICK HIM/HER UP FROM SCHOOL.

    Thank you for your cooperation!
