    10.04.2020 LSK8 Weekly Update
    Published on Oct 5, 2020 11:02

Good evening, Licton Springs K-8 Families,

PTO Meeting on Tuesday Night:  Just a reminder that our PTO will be hosting its October meeting on Tuesday, 10/6 starting at 6pm. contact the PTO, your childs teacher or send an email to LictonSprings@seattleschools.org for the link and password.

Staffing Update:  Many of you may know that Mr. Daniel, our art teacher, and Darryl, our social worker, left over the summer, and our music teacher, Mr. Mena, accepted a full time teaching position at neighboring Robert Eaglestaff.  We have hired Nora Jungbluth, an experienced school social worker currently working in Tukwila, for our social work opening.  Nora will begin with us on Monday, 10/12.  We are currently hiring for the art and music teacher positions.  They were recently put on hold due to the district hiring freeze, but I anticipate being able to move forward with filling these .5 positions this week.

Scheduling update:  We had initially planned to roll out a new schedule this week, however, after careful consideration, we are going to wait to implement it on Monday 10/12.  This will give teachers additional time to plan for the changes and families with greater lead time to make any needed adjustments to their schedules.  We will have the new schedule sent out no later than this Thursday.

Special Education Office Hours:  Emily will hold office hours for family members of students receiving special education services this week.  Any families who have feedback or questions regarding their experience with Special Education services at LSK8 is welcome to attend.  The first session will be held at 5:30 on Tuesday, 10/6 (click on link here to join Join Microsoft Teams MeetingThe second session will be held at 1:15 on Wednesday, 10/5 (click on link here to join: Join Microsoft Teams Meeting/).  At this time, your child should be receiving their scheduled services and one of our special education teachers should have reached out to you to schedule a virtual learning-related IEP meeting by the state deadline of 10/15.

Verify your contact information PLEASE!:  We need you to verify your contact information in the Source by Thursday, 10/8 at 6pm please.  This is a process SPS asks all families to complete, and at this time, Licton Springs has a very low completion rate.  You have been receiving direct messages from the district regarding completing this task.  Please help our teachers and staff out so they can have current information on parent/guardians, emergency contacts, contact information, and contacts permitted to pick your child up from school.  Directions can be found here  Directions on how to access the Source and student verification form can be found here. For questions, please contact: sourcesupport@seattleschools.org.

Superintendent’s Reopening Plan Task Force:  Seattle Public Schools is recruiting students, families, and community members for the Superintendent's Reopening Plan Task Force for the 2020-21 school year. The task force will monitor the progress, implementation, and effectiveness of the remote learning model and advise the Board and superintendent on possible revisions and continuous improvement. The deadline for nominations or applications is Oct. 7, 2020.  Here is a link to the application:  Task Force Application

Have a great rest of your weekend.
