    09/02/2020 LSK8 Update
    Published on Sep 2, 2020 13:30

Good afternoon, Licton Springs K-8 Families,

While we are incredibly excited to have your students back with us on Friday at 8:30, we are disappointed to be providing you with important details much later than we would have liked.  Information is coming at schools at a rapid pace, and, once given to us, requires some time to figure out how to act on the information in a way that makes sense for our community.  Please understand these are issues with all Seattle Public Schools and not just Licton Springs K-8.  I thank you a great deal for your patience during this unique time.

Strong Start Begins Friday:  Class will begin for all students on Friday, 9/4 and will run from 8:30-10:30am with live, on-line instruction.  Please try to log on a few minutes early in the event of technical difficulties.  Teachers will be available over email to support.  After 10:30, students will be provided with a minimum of two hours-worth of independent learning activities to complete in preparation for the next day of Strong Start.  Strong Start runs from 9/4-9/11.  Content area classes begin again on Monday, Sept. 14th.  A schedule for the 14th and beyond will be provided in the next five days over messenger.

School Supplies, Technology, and Back to School Packets:  We will be scheduling designated times for families and students (optional but we love to see them) to come and pick up their school supplies, technology, and Back to School Packets with information we must have updated from families.  I hope to announce these times by the end of the week.  While Friday’s activities will require technology, no other supplies will be required.

School Supplies:  We will be giving out school supplies this school year, so there is no need to buy them or wonder what supplies you may need.  We feel this is the best way to ensure all students have what they need to begin the school year.  If you would have normally bought your child’s school supplies, I would encourage you instead to consider a donation to our school’s fundraising non-profit, Sir Herbert Read Consortium.  You may do so at their PayPal link found on the Get Involved/Fundraising section of our school website or directly at the link here.  As you know, this is an extremely stressful year for our wonderful teaching staff.  These donations will go towards creating a small fund for teacher appreciation items and activities, which we are not allowed to use our school budget on.  Even small donations (i.e $5-15) would be greatly appreciated.

Technology:  We still do not have all technology we need to distribute to students.  If you urgently need a computer, please email CLJohnson@seattleschools.org or call the school number at 206.413.2400 .  If you have some technology available at home, please help us prioritize our students and families who need them both by waiting for more information from us early next week.  We want to ensure anything we distribute now goes to those most in need.

Back to School Packets:  This year more than ever, we need accurate information for families.  We will be asking families to complete the packets in person this year so we get them back right away.  This will take place at supply/technology pick-up.  For those of you unable to leave your home, we will work out alternative arrangements for you.

Outreach from Teachers: By now you should have heard from your child’s teacher via email.  In the event you haven’t please let me know (eabutlergino@seattleschools.org).  Our grade-level leads are:
