LSK8 Back to School Updates 8/30/21
Good evening, Licton Springs K-8 Families,
We are so excited to welcome you and your child back to school on Wednesday. Unlike all other Wednesdays throughout the school year, this Wednesday will be a full day for the first day of school. So all three days of school this week will be full days.
Supply lists: Supply lists went out late last week. We have plenty of supplies for those that won’t have them in time for Wednesday or who may need assistance getting them.
Free & Reduced Lunch Application: Families—we desperately need your help! Our funding is directly tied to the information you provide in the free and reduced meals applications. We need all families to please review the information on the SPS application site and if your info comes even close to matching the info in their eligibility table, please complete the online application. The SPS site is here and if you are eligible based on income, you can apply at the link on the same site! https://www.seattleschools.org/departments/culinary-services/free-and-reduced-price-meals/ Despite the name, this information qualifies you for more than lunch! Eligible students may be eligible to received reduced or waived fees for events. Field trips, AP tests, Running Start Books, ASB fees, PSAT/SAT/ACT, and college applications. If you do not currently qualify but your circumstances change, please complete the form at that time. Our school receives additional funds for every eligible student enrolled. These funds are used for extra tutoring and support, books and materials, and staff professional development.
Technology Distribution: This year, SPS is collecting a $25 fee for technology, given all students will receive technology. Families will need to sign an agreement form and provide a $25 usage fee. Students eligible for Free and Reduced Lunch may have this waived, so please complete your form. This fee was waived for all students in the 20-21 school year, but will be collected this year by the district. Payments may be made in cash, check (made out to Seattle Public Schools), or through SchoolPay, which can be found when you log onto the Source. More info on SchoolPay and paying the fee can be found here: https://www.seattleschools.org/departments/dots/support-training-forms/schoolpay/. If you will have a challenge paying this fee, please also let us know at email@example.com.
Transportation: If you DO NOT need transportation support this school year, please help us out and go to the Transportation Department website and submit the form to Decline Transportation. We know many of our families will not use or need the district’s transportation services, so we ask that you complete this form so we can continue to offer broad transportation for our other families. You may do so here https://www.seattleschools.org/departments/transportation/contact-us/ by selecting “Decline Transportation”: . If you need to change your child’s drop off location for afterschool childcare, you may also do that on this site by selecting “Bus/Route” and selecting “Concern” along with the details of your change.
Staff Professional Learning: Our staff have been back to work since Tuesday, 8/24. This is two days earlier than the required start date so we can be ready to welcome students back to school and to be prepared for whatever is to come this year. Staff have had extensive time to prepare their classrooms for students, as well as the following trainings:
- Native Policy & Law Intro
- Supporting Native (and all) Students Experiencing Trauma
- Supporting LGBTQIA2 students at school
- District Racial Equity Training related to Cultivating Black Genius and making our school culture better for our students of color.
We will also be partnering with the Arc of King County to provide a Neurodiversity is Diversity training this month and with Washington Ethnic Studies Now throughout the year.
Our staff are excited and prepared to see your scholar at school on Wednesday!
