Dear Licton Springs K-8 Families:

Summer greetings! I hope you have had and are continuing to have a wonderful vacation! Hopefully, you are taking advantage of the last month of summer and will be refreshed and ready for the approaching school year. The enclosed information should help you with planning and preparation for the school year.

We have less than 3 weeks of summer break until the first day of school on Wednesday, September 7th. Kindergarten students will begin school on September 12th. Currently, our staff is working hard to get the Lincoln Building ready for the first day. Some great things have been going on at Licton Springs K-8 since the end of June.

I would like to welcome the following new staff:

Teachers: Kristi McQuillan (6th grade), Kayla Winters (SM$), Safiya Jetha (MS Science), Cassy Griswold (4th grade), Malena Homavand (Sp.Ed), Barbara Hiesiger (LAP/Title 1), and Darryl James (Full time Counselor). The Administrative Assistant (since 2007), Franchesca de Guzman, has taken a position as Senior Administrative Assistant at the JSCEE. She will be working to support the office of Executive Directors and will not be returning this school year.

This week, we will be interviewing for a .5 Librarian and a full time IA in the Sp.Ed SM4 program. Hopefully, we can have those staff on board by next week.

Below are a few events to take note and if possible, attend:

  • Tuesday, September 6th - “Meet and Greet” from 2:00-3:00PM: new and returning families will have the opportunity to meet the teachers and staff at Licton Springs K-8.
  • September 7th – First Day of School for students Gr. 1-8. School is from 8:45 AM– 3:15 PM.
  • September 12th - First Day of School for Kindergarten students
  • September 22nd – Open House/Curriculum Night, 6:00 to 7:30PM
  • October 3rd - All School Picture Day (more information will be distributed at a later date).

If you haven’t received information regarding your student’s bus arrangements, please call the Transportation Department at 206-252-0900 or email transdept@seattleschools.org.

It is advised to have your student’s Student ID ready. Buses will load/ drop off students on 43rd ST, between Interlake Ave N and Woodland Ave N (west of the faculty parking lot entrance). For students being driven/carpooling to school, we have designated the SE corner of Lincoln as a student drop-off zone.

Please note that the school office hours during the summer will be from 8:30-3:30.
We are awaiting student supply lists from the new teachers at this time. Your patience is appreciated.

I’m anticipating another wonderful school year! Enjoy the rest of your summer vacation!

Sincerely,

Roy Merca
